2007-04-02 Skin of Teeth Syndrome |
If teeth had skin it could not be tighter than the end of the 2007 Kvalserien. Even with one minute to go things were unclear as to what was going to happen. When that minute expired it was heartbreak for Malmö. A monumental last ten minutes which almost rescued the impossible was just not long enough. The despair and disappointment on both the players and fans faces was there for all to see. For the leadership within the organization that despondency must soon turn to a focus on putting a plan together to get the Redhawks back into the Elitserien in time for the big move to their new home. |

2006-11-12 A NEW KING IN MALMÖ |
At the start of the Elitserien 2006-2007 campaign hopes were high of a successful season at Malmö Redhawks. Nineteen games in and most of those hopes have been deflated. Rock bottom in the league, things had to change. Despite some players leaving the club fortunes did not improve and this weekend Malmö Redhawks made, what was, a very difficult decision. Head coach Lars Osten Bergström was to be replaced. Club director Thomas Stenberg says "We were happy with Ostens efforts last year but have not had the development we had hoped for this season. Therefore we have made the decision to bring new blood in to help bring about the necessary changes." |

2006-04-13 ELITE TIMES AHEAD |
For those who arrived at Malmö Isstadion on Wednesday last the tension was already palpable. For those who arrived just before the puck dropped it was almost unbearable. The win against Skellefteå the previous week alongside Södertälje dropping points made the things fairly easy to predict. Malmö needed to beat Leksand to open the door to elite hockey in the autumn. |

2006-04-05 One Step Closer |
Malmö have had it difficult against Skellefteå all season having been beaten on all three previous meetings of the two teams. Finally on Monday night the Redhawks claimed a well deserved victory, but what better time to claim just rewards. While Malmö were beating AIK by two goals to one Södertalje were dropping points at Leksand. With a little maths works after the game the Malmö fans all came to the same conclusion, a win against Leksand at home on Wednesday means Elitserien ice hockey in Malmö next season. |

2006-04-03 And then there were three! |
Six teams started this Kvalserien, now only three are left with any chance of making the step up to the Elitserien. Malmö, Skellefteå and Södertälje are the only teams with any realistic chance of getting that much desired promotion. Rögle still have a mathematical chance of making it but you would need a calculator with space for a lot of numbers to try and work out their odds of challenging for one of the top two spots. Put another way, if Malmö want to play Elitserien hockey next year, they have a lot of work to do over the next seven days. The good news for Malmö is that they are in full control of their own destiny. Win all of the last three games and they will be promoted. Simple, isn't it? |

2006-03-20 A Good Start...Just got a little bit better |
On Friday the Redhawks went on the road to Bofors. Malmö have done well all season against the Bobcats and this was no different with a very impressive 9-2 victory, scoring all of four goals in boxplay situations. An emphatic performance, especially in powerplays and box plays, highlights again the improvements Malmö have made in this area all season. |

2006-03-15 The Fun Starts Here |
The regular season is over. Malmö finished top, Rögle a distant fourth. Tonight however that counts for nothing. All six teams in the Kvalserien start from scratch tonight. There is no room for complacency. Osten says "This season has been valuable and interesting. We have had a good preparation for what is about to happen. We have for the most part a new organisation and a new team. It takes time for all the pieces to fall into place. It hasn't been a long, monotonous process, the organization has been goal orientated with an eye to the future." |

2006-02-08 King Gustaf |
Once again one good period was enough to ensure victory and take home three more points. Malmö's netminder was the difference between the Redhawks and Västerås on Sunday and helped ensure a three one win. He had a great game minding the Malmö net, particularly in the first period. He is certainly well on his way towards living up to his nickname , "the wall". |

2006-02-08 A Response from the Front Line |
Riihijärvi, Staal and Söderbergh responded to recent criticism in the only and best possible way. The first line led the way tonight in Stockholm in this comfortable 5-0 win over Hammarby. Riihijärvi scored twice and his colleague's Staal and Söderbergh were busy and inspiring, all three gave the strongest possible sign that their troubles were over. "Jussi (Riihijärvi) was good, in fact the whole line was good" reflected "Osten" later. |

2006-02-01 The Kids won this one |
It was a sleepy Sunday afternoon at Malmö Ice Stadium. If not on the ice well then certainly on the terraces. As Malmö found it hard impose their game on a well organised Sundsvall team. It took Andreas Thuresson and Johan Forsberg to ensure victory in a game that many of the Malmö fans were expecting a big home victory.
Thuresson made a great contribution and was involved in the lead up to Malmös equaliser and it was great to see Forsberg to score what was effectively the winning goal for the Redhawks. After the 3-1 victory "Osten" says that "he (Forsberg) was great through the whole game".

2006-02-01 Wahlberg Shows the Way |
Against his old club Almtuna, Mikael Wahlberg led the way to a comfortable win. "Sälen" (="The Seal") scored the first, assisted the third and won seventeen of his eighteen face-offs.
After the first period Malmö effectively had the game won with a four nil lead, a just reflection of the Redhawks effective offensive play. "We had strength, speed and finesse. We were committed and are tough to play against when we are in that form" said a happy Bergström after the 6-3 victory over Almtuna.

2006-02-01 Malmö give Björklöven Play Off Hope |
One of the seasons worst performances, maybe the worst, and Malmö were on their way to their first loss in regular time on home ice. Up in Björklöven Malmö won 8-2 but this afternoon löven took revenge and won 3-4. Both the defence and the goalkeeper could have hoped for more when they offered Björklöven the three points.
"Our powerplay didn't work like before, our key players have it tough. We let in considerably more goals than before and we played carelessly" summarised "Osten" afterwards. It's not going so well for the Redhawks right now, not well at all.

2006-01-19 The Big Build Up |
On Friday next Malmö play host to second placed team Skellefteå AIK in what is one of the most important games of the Allsvenskan regular season. The top two teams are comfortably ahead of the rest of the teams so this one is all about the gaining an advantage in the race to be Allsvenskan champions. Malmö will be looking for revenge for the 5-3 defeat up north earlier in the season. Skellefteå will be looking to put behind them an 11-2 defeat on there last visit to Malmö a year ago. On paper Skellefteå need a victory much more than the Redhawks, behind in the league having played two more games puts most of the pressure on their shoulders. |

The match in Arboga was a whole different experience. Leading by 2-0 after just 1.23 of the match palyed is the dictionary definition of a dream start.

2006-01-17 Desperate Start leads to Derby Loss |
-Before the match "Osten" mentioned discipline - not to much effect though as Malmö found themselves in trouble with the referee right from when the puck dropped.
-Some of the penalties were obvious but at the same time Rögle were doing their best to make the most of an inexperienced referee. After the game, Malmö coach Bergström was critical of the choice of referee claiming one cannot throw in a practical trainee into such a temperamental derby.
-Malmö Redhawks dominated for long periods but were not so effective. Rögle won the third derby 3-2.
