COMINGS AND GOINGS IN MALMÖ
It has been a while since there has been any news updates regarding the Redhawks so here is a summary of what has been happening in the hawks nest over recent weeks.
Players In and Players Out. The last transfer window of the season closed on January 31st and Malmö were heavily involved with some exciting arrivals coming to Malmö for the rest of the season. First the players coming in.
GUSTAF WESSLAU
 |
|
Gustaf Wesslau. | Despite having a quality back up goalkeeper in Christopher Nihlstorp the Redhawks have decided to bring in a new netminder to compliment Corey Hirsch. Gustaf Wesslau has signed from Allsvenskan rivals AIK. When asked why replace Nihlstorp sport director Peter Andersson explained "Corey played almost every game and Christopher has had no match experience, and both goalkeepers need to have that with the Kvalserien coming up. We knew that we needed a goalkeeper that was fully match fit. Christopher needs to see this in a positive sense and now decide what he wants to do and what he can do. He will be given the possibility to stay here or to move on. I have every confidence he will succeed." On the other hand speaking about Wesslau "He is a player for the future. He has experience from tight and important matches, and that's what we need in the Kvalserien. He has played almost all season with AIK and so is fully up to match speed." When asked why he came to Malmö midseason Gustaf says "Malmö will play in the Kvalserien and have great ambition and want to be back in the Elitserien and that is where I want to be. It is exactly the right thing to do at this stage of my career. Malmö are much better than AIK"
In the meantime Christopher Nihlstorp will spend the rest of the season at Nybro Vikings on loan.
MISKA KANGASNIEMI and PATRIK AHLSTRAND The experienced Finn who joined Malmö last season will return to his native Finalnd next season. He has agreed to join Finish league team JYP. Meanwhile Patrik Ahlstrand who joined after the Halmstad went bankrupt has had his contract renewed to the end of the season
DAVID MORAVEC
 |
|
David Moravec. | The Czech international forward has signed for Malmö Redhawks. He is a typical goal getter with experience from the World Cup and the Olympic Games.
¤ Olympic Champion 1998 ¤ World Champion 1999 and 2001 ¤ World Bronze in 1997
He is explosive and along with another Czech signing, Martin Stepanec, should prove valuable in the Kvalserien. Peter Andersson says of Moravec "This is a player that keeps a high quality in all aspects of his game. He is good in the face off and effective in both power and box play. He is a genuinely good hockey player and will add to the team. Both signings will travel to Stockholm at the weekend"
MARTIN STEPANEC
