Desperate Start leads to Derby Loss
-Before the match "Osten" mentioned discipline- not to much effect though as Malmö found themselves in trouble with the referee right from when the puck dropped. -Some of the penalties were obvious but at the same time Rögle were doing their best to make the most of an inexperienced referee. After the game, Malmö coach Bergström was critical of the choice of referee claiming one cannot throw in a practical trainee into such a temperamental derby.
-Malmö Redhawks dominated for long periods but were not so effective. Rögle won the third derby 3-2.
An almost full house made lots of noise right from the off. Malmö found themselves playing 3 against 5 from very early in the game with Matthiasson and Frylen sitting out 2 minutes each in the penalty box. Rögle punished Malmös indiscipline going 1 - 0 up after just 2.50. Kenny Jonsson also had a penalty before referee Niklass Persson went on the attack. Malmö played 3 against 5 for a very long period with Alexander Semjonov, Andre Savage and Juha Riihijarvi being sent to the box in very quick succession. Rögle managed to make it 2-0 before even the first of these penalties had run out. Malmö did well to keep it to 2 goals as they remained two down for another two minutes. "We had a pretty rough start to the first period with many penalties" rues "Osten".
"Rögle Faked It" Statistics had the shot count at 11-9 at the end of the first period suggesting an even match. But with the penalty stats standing at 5 -1 Malmös play did not reflect the evenness of the shot count. Referee, Niklass Persson from Onsala didn?t make a high quality contribution and criticism of his penalties was not long I coming. -"Many of the penalties were pretty clear, but at the same time there was clear faking from Rögle. In a temperamental derby like this one cannot just throw in a practical trainee referee who is not used to the pressure" fumed Osten afterwards.
Conceded penalty in powerplay. After a tough first period Redhawks improved and more or less took over the second period. Robert Tomik made it 2-1 early on after good work from Patrik Hersley. There was huge pressure on the Rögle net and they soon began to mount up on penalties. Redhawks powerplays were well executed but were ineffective After some defensive trouble and a hesitant intervention from Corey Hirsch gave Rögle a penalty shot with Malmö having more men on the ice. Totally undefendable. Pär Arlbrandts penalty was a long way from certain but Corey lost focus and let the puck slip between his legs making it 3-1 to Rögle. Illogical, unjust and terribly unlucky. The whole situation was caused by Malmö unnecessarily losing the puck to the opposition. In the sequence leading up to the penalty Semjonov should have put the puck into an wide open goal, but his stick was slashed whereupon Rögle counter attacked and then that happened mentioned "Osten"
Lacking Effectiveness Mikael Wahlberg scored the matches nicest goal after fine work from Andre Savage. His backhand into the net made it 3-2 and gave Malmö some hope of a recovery. But the third period was not as intensive from Malmö; Rögle took a step back and defended their lead very effectively. There were no more goals and so Rögle won he third derby. "I think we were clearly the best team today and we should have won. Despite all the box plays we won the shot count 37-21. But what we lacked today was the effectiveness we had before in both box and powerplay that I am not happy with. I am tremendously disappointed", said Osten
Kenny Better than before The winning team's trainer, Gunnar Persson, praised team captain Kenny Jönsson. "I don?t think I have seen Kenny this good before", he also praised Finnish goalkeeper Jere Myllyniemi who saved Rögle with many miraculous saves.
Referee level was like a roller coaster ride Persson would not make further comment if his players were faking or not, apart from praising referee Perssons efforts and thinks that it is his best match of the season so far in Ångelholm this season. "It was a real roller coaster ride with the decisions. He put the match in their pocket and later compensated when the match was already dead. I have seen more matches in Ängelholm, against Nybro amongst others, where Rögles opposition were handed penalties early on only to be compensated later." And finally "Osten" sends a greeting to Niklass Persson from Onsala;"Players can be penalised for faking as well. There are rules for it."
Next Derby 15 February Wednesday February 15th shall order be restored, and the Redhawks will return to the throne in Skåne. Information regarding tickets to the match will soon be announced on malmoredhawks.com and Sportzapp.
