Redhawks Score a Max

Four matches in seven days, twelve points to show for it. Redhawks win them all and have taken over as leaders of the Allsvenskan from Skellefteå with two matches less played.

Semjonovs Opening goal
Sundays match away to AIK, the third away game in a row, was won by a convincing Redhawks team 2-4. Alexanders Semjonov took the initiative to score shorthanded. Three defensemen stood in his way but a slick side step put him through on goal. Shot, post, goalkeeper, goal, they all count. AIK equalised half way through the first period and all of a sudden Malmö were not so dominant.

Victory Ensured in the Second
In the second period Malmö upped the tempo and cemented their lead in the match as well as in the Allsvenskan League. 1-2 through Kim Staal in the powerplay. Patrik Ahlstrand made it 1-3 after a perfect pass from Jan Öberg. It was Ahlstrands first goal in a Malmö shirt. Robert Tomik made the most of a AIK misjudgement and was through on goal. A great save from AIK keeper Gustav Wesslau was undone by the AIK defence when they charged back to cover the net only to put the puck into the goal themselves. The game now stood at 1-4 and was effectively over.

Shorthanded the last few minutes
AIK made the beginnings of a comeback early in the third, scored by David Engblom. But that’s as close as AIK came despite playing 5 against three for the last five minutes. Referee Lindqvist spent most of the end of the game sending Malmö players to the penalty box. Edvin Frylen went first (2+2), later Malmö got a team penalty for unsporting behaviour. Kangasniemi and Norgren both went for two minutes, all of that within 70 seconds. AIK pulled Wesslau more in hope than ambition but Malmös defence stayed solid to keep the final score at 2-4. Malmös Johan Björk and AIK's Stefan Gråhns gave each other a bit of a thumping with just seven seconds remaining. Both got a match penalty and we await what further punishment will be issued.

Björk won the fight and Malmö the game. A worthwhile effort from the Redhawks this week with nine points out of a possible nine, all on away ice.

Next Friday sees a real cruncher in Malmö when the league leaders will host second placed Skellefteå AIK. It will be Skellefteås first time in Malmö since last years Qualification Game where they lost 11-2.
Not to be missed.
